Tony Arbour, London Assembly Member for Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow, will today press the Mayor Boris Johnson to reaffirm his commitment to oppose a 3rd Runway at Heathrow. The Government are presently holding a consultation on the future of aviation policy, and will be considering a number of options for expansion of runway capacity. Speaking before the first Mayor’s Question Time since the May London elections, Tony said:
“I will be using my question to the Mayor at today’s meeting to ensure that Boris Johnson still opposes a third runway at Heathrow. BAA are already increasing night flights, and are lobbying hard for permission to build a third runway. If the Government reversed their position on this, it would be disastrous for my residents. It is important to keep the pressure on, and the support of the Mayor is crucial in boosting the campaign against expanding the airport further.”
