Roger Evans AM, London Assembly Member for Havering and Redbridge has today criticised the International Olympic Committee for refusing requests for a one-minute silence to commemorate the 11 Israeli athletes and coaches killed at the Munich Olympics 40 years ago.

Speaking after Mayor’s Question Time where the matter was raised with Boris Johnson, Roger Evans said:

“There is cross-party support for a one-minute silence inside the Olympic Stadium as part of the Opening Ceremony to commemorate this black day in Olympic history and it is to their shame if the IOC takes a small-minded view on this issue.

“My constituents in Havering and Redbridge, and I’m sure the vast majority of Londoners, would strongly support the Mayor in doing everything he can to push the IOC to think again.”
